Backyard Prairie Flower ID of the week:
Echinacea angustifolia (Echinacea purpurea found in far east Texas)
common name is Purple Coneflower
Attracts butterflies and is a perennial that grows to about 2 feet in shade to full sun. Blooms April through June. Likes dry feet except first year getting established. Important for tall grass prairie restoration. Can rarely spot a white coneflower in the prairie. Depending on soil can get to a deep pink color.
